Update! Please click below for maps of the four routes on the Capitol Classic.
For over 30 years the Capitol Classic has provided riders a great way to explore Topeka and northeast Kansas. This year’s event includes multiple opportunities to learn Kansas history and experience the beauty of the Kaw River Valley.
The ride will take place Sunday, May 7 at 8:00 am. Registration will begin at 6:45 am at the Kansas Judicial Center parking lot (directly south of the State Capitol at 10th & Harrison in downtown Topeka).
This year we will have four route options (miles of 24, 48, 71, or a 36-mile gravel ride). All routes include SAG stops and roving SAG support. Three of our routes will travel from our present day Capitol to our first Territorial Capitol in Lecompton. Riders will be able to tour the territorial museum and then pedal over and check out Constitutional Hall.
The gravel road option will be 36 miles. Riders will follow the old river road between Topeka and Lecompton. This route is suitable for mountain or cross bikes, and would be a great warm up for other gravel rides later in the season.
