For over 30 years the Capitol Classic has provided riders a great way to explore Topeka and northeast Kansas. This year’s event includes multiple opportunities to learn Kansas history and experience the beauty of the Kaw River Valley.
This year we will have four route options (road bike miles range from 24, 48, and 71, with an additional 36-mile gravel route). All four routes include SAG stops and roving SAG support. Three of our routes will travel from our present-day capitol building to our first territorial capital in Lecompton, Kansas. Riders will be able to tour the territorial museum and then pedal over and check out Constitutional Hall.
The gravel-road option will be 36 miles and follow the old river road between Topeka and Lecompton. This route is suitable for gravel, mountain, or cross bikes, and would be a great warm up for other gravel rides later in the season.
Maps for all routes are posted at the bottom of the page.
Helmets are required on all KVBC-sponsored rides.
